Your VIN Just Triggered a Compliance Deadline: Find Your Clean Truck Check Due Date
The aggressive enforcement of the CARB Clean Truck Check program means deadlines are no longer optional—they are critical to staying on the road. If you're a California-registered fleet or an out-of-state hauler, your vehicle requires semi-annual testing in 2025 and 2026.
The critical question is: When is your test due?
How CARB Determines Your Due Date
Your truck's specific compliance deadline is determined by its registration status:
California-Registered Vehicles: Your compliance dates are based on your DMV registration expiration date. Generally, you have two deadlines: the month of your registration expiration and six months after that date.
Non-California Registered Vehicles: Your compliance dates are determined by the last digit of your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). For example, a VIN ending in '4' has due dates in February and August.
Motorhomes & RVs: If registered in California and over 14,000 lbs, you must still register and pay the fee, but you only require testing once per year (annually).
Why You Can't Wait for the Due Date
You can (and should) submit your passing emissions test up to 90 days before your compliance deadline. Testing early minimizes risk. If your vehicle fails, you need time for repairs and a retest, which must all be completed before the deadline to avoid fines and DMV holds.
